The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has stated that degree holders will not be considered in the police recruitment scheduled for Thursday, March 24.
In a statement shared on social media, the commission cited payment disputes by police graduates, indicating that the minimum qualification is a D+ in the KCSE examination and it will remain so.
“We have indicated in the advertisements placed in various media platforms that we are recruiting police constables with a minimum qualification of D+ in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education [KCSE] exam, and this remains the case because the advertised positions are in a specific job group.” John Ole Moyak, a NPSC official, stated.
“To minimize labor concerns, we are recommending those with degrees to wait for alternative opportunities,” he added.
However, Mr. Moyak, said that the commission was not discouraging degree holders from the police service intimating that there were higher job categories available for them.
The move by the police service comes days after over 1,000 police officers were involved in a dispute over the deduction of their salaries.
The officers decried a deduction in their pay that left some of them with negative salaries after a directive by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.
Meanwhile, the service is looking to recruit 5,000 more officers in the Thursday exercise.
