Kenyan government has announced the date of burial of the third Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki who passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 where he will be buried at his Othaya home Nyeri.
Addressing reporters with President Kibaki’s family, Security Minister Fred Matiang’i said they had agreed to bury the late in Kibati on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
Matiang’i said, A national service will be held at Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, April 29, before the body is transported to his home in the Othaya parliamentary constituency for burial.
“We have completed the initial preparations for the national funeral of late President Mwai Kibaki and would like the public to know that this will take place on Friday, April 29, at the Nyayo National Stadium. President Kibaki will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 30, 2022,” concluded.
“President Kibaki’s body will be in the National Assembly for three days between Monday and Wednesday so that the public and other leaders can pay their last respects,” Matiang’i added.
The late Mwai Kibaki held various positions in his service to the Kenyan nation and Kenyans and various leaders in mourning Kibaki, many calling him the best president ever to appear in the country.
Kibaki served as Member of Parliament In the 1963 elections, he won the Donholm constituency now known as the Makadara constituency, the Donholm MP until 1974 when he moved to Othaya and was elected in every election until 2013 when he retired.
Kibaki also served as Minister After winning the Donholm legislature in 1963, and was appointed Assistant Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Economic Planning Commission before being promoted to Minister of Trade and Industry in 1966.
As KANU’s main supporter, Kibaki was appointed Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in 1969 and held the position until the death of President Jomo Kenyatta in 1978.
Mwai Kibaki Became Vice President After Vice President Daniel Arap Moi took over the presidency following the death of President Jomo Kenyatta, Kibaki was appointed Vice President as well as Finance Minister until 1982 when he began a feud with Moi.
Following that the Ministry of Finance was handed over to him, given the Ministry of Home Affairs but in 1988, he was further offended by President Moi, fired as Vice President and given the post of Minister of Health.
He resigned from the government in 1991 and formed the Democratic Party (DP) after the restoration of the multi-party political system, in preparation for the 1992 election in which he contested and emerged third.
Opposition leader In the 1997 elections, Kibaki finished second with his DP party and became the official leader of the opposition and became President. In the 2002 election, he ran for the presidency and defeated his rival Uhuru Kenyatta.
In 2007, Kibaki secured his second term as President except in the wake of the violence that erupted after the announcement of the results put mud in his leadership. He retired in 2013 and ousted Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kenya’s third president Mwai Kibaki passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the age of 90.
