A mourning man has caused a stir in Nairobi’s parliament building where the body of retired president Mwai Kibaki has been placed for public view.
The unidentified man claimed to be the distant grandson of the late Mwai Kibaki, and was deeply saddened by the news of his death.
Even as police officers tried to console him to calm down, the man could hear nothing.
“Kwa nini umeenda haraka sana,” he said, bursting into tears.
“Niruhusu nimwone kwa mara ya mwisho,” he told officers.
The man first took off some of his clothes, protesting that he should be allowed to look at the body of his ‘grandfather’ who introduced free primary education.
Police officers later escorted the man from Parliament Buildings after efforts to calm him down were fruitless.
The body of the late president Mwai Kibaki arrived at the Parliament House in Nairobi from Lee’s office on Tuesday morning for a second public view.
Kenyans who did not view Mwai Kibaki’s body on Monday will now have the opportunity to pay their last respects on Tuesday and tomorrow.
The Body viewing will be closed on Wednesday.
At this time, the public will be allowed to view the body before the State Funeral on Friday at Nyayo Stadium.
