A Bus with 45-passenger caught fire on Nairobi-Kisumu Highway.

Photos circulated online showed that the incident took place on the Nairobi-Kisumu Highway near the Petroleum Station.

The Guardian Angel bus is said to have caught fire after a wheel burst in Kisumu.

All passengers were rescued safely as police launched an investigation into the source of the fire.

Witnesses told reporters that some of the luggage inside the bus could not be rescued as the fire spread quickly.

Reports indicate that the bus was en route to Nairobi from Busia.

in a separate incident, a state of emergency was declared in Kainuk, Turkana county after gunmen on Sunday, May 1, attacked a 14-passenger truck en route to Lodwar from Kitale.

According to South Turkana Sub-County Police Commander Robert Kibuchi, the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, leaving eight passengers and three drivers in critical condition.

Recounting the incident, Kibuchi noticed that the armed men appeared in the bushes along the Kapenguria-Lodwar road, and ordered the vehicle to stop.

The assailants then shot the driver of the truck in the chest, before pointing his gun at the passengers with the intention of shooting anyone who disobeyed their order.

Turkana police chief said the armed men robbed passengers of their belongings, including cash and mobile phones, before disappearing into nearby bushes.

The injured, including the driver, were taken to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital, West Pokot County.

“The four who are in critical condition are three passengers and a driver of the other car. Two passengers were shot in the head, while the driver was shot in the chest, ”he said.

Kibuchi added that a search had been launched to remove the thugs from their hideouts.
