Ofodum Jovita Oraneli is a courageous Nigerian woman who has been in the business of making and selling coffins for over 7 years now.


The businesswoman said she felt it was right to carry the corpse as she saw it as a way to help the deceased and the bereaved.
The woman also spoke about the widespread belief that coffin makers are involved in magical practices as well as praying for people to die.


Buying and selling coffins is a business that few would embrace even if they were given opportunities and resources. but it is a business that Ofodum Jovita Oraneli runs for a living.

The Nigerian woman who lives in eastern Nigeria also runs an ambulance as well as selling and repairing coffins a business that she has been doing for seven years now.

In an interview with BBC News Pidgin, the businesswoman said she enjoys her job as she sees it as a relief given to the dead and their loved ones who have died.

Jovita added that it is a bad sign for a person to die without someone to bury that person.

The woman also spoke about the widespread belief that coffin makers are involved in magical practices as well as in praying for people to die.

“People say we engage in magic practices in this business, they also say we pray for people to die. Prayer is prayer. Anyone who sets up a product for sale asks customers to come forward and be interested in the product. “

“So, I pray for customers to come, but I’m not asking for anyone to die therefore, let the dead be buried – they are my clients, “she said in pinyin language.

About the lesson she learned, Jovita revealed that the business taught her to be good all the time as one day she would also die and leave everything.
