For several years, Arab jobs has been attracting not only local girls but also foreigners. It is a work that many have found to be a challenge in life.
Those who seek such Arab jobs, use agents who link them with employers. Some of these agents are registered, while others carry out the activity illegally.
Sometimes for these girls it is difficult to identify agents authorized and fake ones. Many cases have been reported here in the country of girls disappearing as soon as they go to Saudia Arabia for different jobs. Some of these girls are returned home in critical condition and others have died.
Despite the fact that the government has long been silent on the challenges facing these beauties abroad, calls have been made to the government to streamline the process for Kenyans seeking employment in those countries.
Cynthia Wanjiru, heard about the Arab job from her fellow girls and risked going. Due to the difficulties she faced after completing her high school education, Cynthia made a decision and immediately began the process of moving to Saudi Arabia.
“After completing Form Four, life was very difficult. I needed to make a living and also had a baby and he had different needs. I heard about the Arab work and then decided to go there, maybe my life would change for the better, ”said Cynthia.
She soon completed the required process, boarded a plane and embarked on a journey to Saudi Arabia, a country she did not know, and did not know anyone in that desert nation.
“We arrived in Saudia with about 20 girls. We got on the bus and started the journey of about seven hours. Inside the bus, we also had girls from other countries. It was a tiring trip, ”Cynthia explained, bursting in tears.
They arrived safely, and were greeted by agents in the area. After waiting for about two hours, her employer arrived and took her home.
Filled with unspeakable joy, they quietly traveled with the arrival of her employer. however the tragedy started at the door as eight children were among those who came out to meet her, this was the opposite of expectations for Cynthia.
“When we filled out the application form, I was informed that my employer had no children, but when I arrived I found eight children,” exclaimed Cynthia as she sank for a few minutes in the sea of thoughts.
Her employer’s family owned a luxury home, which had several rooms, all of which needed to be fully accommodated. Five of the eight children were going to school and Cynthia had to take care of them all.
“I went to bed at five o’clock at evening and woke up at ten o’clock in the morning, I had to prepare the children and also prepare them for breakfast… ..they should not be late,” said Cynthia in a state of shock.
Contrary to her expectations, Saudi life entered a new page of trouble and a whole new set of problems. The lady from Kayole Street regretted her move to Saudia Arabia.
What Happened In An Employer’s House?
Arabian and Indian cuisine contains a lot of pepper and spices, which Cynthia was not accustomed to. Despite having the ingredients and the fact that she was the cook, Cynthia was not one of those who would pick up food at the table and eat.
“I cooked and after the food was ready, my employer’s wife took all the food and sent it to the table where I was not invited, she was not leaving me at all,” She said.
The girl, who had high hopes of living in Arabia, had to eat uncooked rice, in order to appease her hunger pangs.
“I used to soak rice with water to make it lighter so I could eat… ..I had nothing else to do,” She said. The issue that really upset Cynthia and made her feel as if her life had come to a standstill, was when her employer openly told her that she was his second wife.
Those words of her employer made Cynthia see her life plunged into total darkness, she saw life become like an empty egg shell, hope was an unanswered riddle.
Many who have returned to the country from work in Arabia describe their plight, especially the suffering they suffered at the hands of their employers.
Some revealed they were defiled and even deprived of basic necessities such as food, water and even medical treatment.
Cynthia’s story was no different, her employer, not once, twice or thrice tried to defile her but to no avail. Instead, the employer sexually assaulted Cynthia in a mansion that had been turned into hell.cynthia witnessed firsthand how cruelty evolved from animals to humans.
How Cynthia escaped and Returned home.
After enduring torture and ill-treatment at her employer’s home, the beauty decided to flee in order to find ways to return home. She was unlucky because after her employer escaped, she was arrested by the police and taken to a police station.

Cynthia’s health deteriorated as a result of the lack of food and the illness she suffered as she did not receive treatment. As her health deteriorated further, her employer decided to send her back to Kenya, whereas according to him Cynthia would not return home but die in her journey.
The journey from Saudi Arabia to Kenya was a long one for Cynthia, given her desire to be reunited with her family. She returned to the country in December 2021, and is currently in the process of completing her treatment, after suffering a stroke abroad.
“That job was not good for me. The money I earned I spent all on treatment… now I am looking for a job, or if I am lucky enough to get a business it will be okay, ” Cynthia added.
