The crash, which occurred just two weeks after a similar accident, involved a matatu from Embasava Sacco, which overturned after hitting the toll station.
According to a statement by Kenya National Highways Authority, multiple injuries were reported from the Monday evening incident and rescue efforts are ongoing.
“Motorists are notified of an accident that has occurred along the Nairobi Expressway at the Mlolongo Toll Station, involving a PSV mini-bus. Multiple injuries have been reported, and traffic police are attending to the scene,” a statement from the authority indicated.
KeNHA advised Kenyans to exit or enter the expressway at the Syokimau Toll Station, even as rescue efforts are underway at the scene of the accident.
Reports say that over 20 people sustained injuries following the road accident.
The victims were all occupants of the bus that was moving from Nairobi to Kitengela during the incident.
The bus was reportedly speeding on the expressway before it rammed into the car whose driver was being cleared at the expressway’s Mlolongo exit.
This came just 10 days after a motorist died in a grisly road accident involving multiple vehicles on the multi-billion newly constructed Nairobi Expressway.
Confirming the incident, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the accident was caused by a motorist who was driving at high speed while approaching the exit.
The motorist, in turn, crashed into the Toll Plaza and ran over other vehicles that were being cleared to exit.
