
AK47 stolen from two police officers during a robbery at Matuu Equity branch, Machakos, was found in the Ruiru bush, Kiambu County.
An AK47 rifle was found in a bush on a private farm on July 7, 2022, about a year after it was stolen.The owner of the farm told police he was clearing the bush when he stumbled upon the weapon.
The weapon, no: KE KP 55266385, was found with 21 bullets in the bush and was in a state of disrepair at the time, police said.
9 bullets were missing from the 30 that were present when it was stolen.No arrests were made and it is not known how long the incident took place.
The gun was seized from Constable Patrick Omusebe, on July 27, 2021, during a bank robbery case by five suspected robbers, the weapon was forwarded to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation for testing.
In the same case, witnesses and police said a gang of three people first attacked two police officers on duty at the station and grabbed their guns before raiding the bank.
They ordered some of the staff and customers present to lie down.A CCTV footage showed one of the bank’s officers, Constable Dorothy Opili, stepping out of her seat outside the premises shortly before the robbery.
When she left, she dropped her AK-47 rifle, number 5527115 and carried 30 bullets with her colleague, Omusebe.The male officer had his AK47, number 5526385, which also had 30 rounds of ammunition.
Shortly thereafter, he placed both rifles on the floor and sat down.Photos showed the gang arrived at 9am the bank was open.
