The body of a Kenyan nurse who drowned while swimming in a pool in Canada is finally brought to her home in Motonto, Kisii county before the funeral scheduled for today, Wednesday.
Hellen Wendy Nyabuto was engaging her friends in a live show on Facebook on August 18 when she met her death after being overwhelmed by the power of the water and accidentally drowned.
Her body was kept in a Canadian morgue until last week when her family went to pick it up for Burial. After successfully retrieving the body, the parents of the deceased transported it by Ethiopian Airlines and arrived at JKIA on Saturday.
Wendy’s body was kept in Lee’s room until Tuesday when it was picked up and transported to their home in Kisii.family members, neighbors, friends and villagers who had gathered at the home of the deceased’s parents on Tuesday were overcome with emotion as they lined up to see the body of the young lady, some of the mourners were seen bursting into tears shortly after seeing the body of the deceased which was placed outside.
Wendy’s funeral will be held today, Wednesday, about a month and a half after she passed away in Canada.The parents of the deceased accompanied her body when it was brought to the country on Saturday,
last week, addressing journalists at the JKIA airport, Wendy’s father, John Nyabuto, said the body of the deceased has been kept in the mortuary of Lee Funeral Home before being transported to Kisii where she will be buried.
“The process was long. doing everything and filling the necessary documents was taking a long time,” said Mr Nyabuto.
Wendy’s mother said they were well received in Canada and with the help of various people they managed to complete the necessary steps to finally be able to transport their daughter’s body home.
They also visited the swimming pool where their daughter drowned and were informed that there would be no compensation.
“We arrived at the swimming pool and saw that it was written ‘unsupervised’. Now if you go in there, it’s up to you to swim, there is no compensation ,” said.Ms. Nyabuto complained about the hotel’s rules saying new guests should be supervised while swimming.
