Operations came to a standstill in the center of Kitale (CBD) in Kenya when the hearse carrying the body of a prominent businessman refused to move and attracted residents who flooded to witness the strange event.
One of those who witnessed the event said it lasted for more than 30 minutes and many people were surprised to witness the unusual event.
“We are shocked because we have never experienced this kind of incident in this city we often watch such events on television and listen to them on the radio,” the witness said.
Later, the body was taken out of the Mercedes Benz luxury car and transferred to another Toyota Hilux hearse and then the procession led by the Salvation Army Band continued.
One of the businessmen in the town, Ken Mutai, dismissed the incident as surprising, saying that the hearse had technical problems.
“I don’t want to believe what other people say that the body refused to be taken home. a technical problem is possible and therefore what happened is not strange to me,” Mutai said.
In an interview with K24, an Elder of the Bukusu community who asked his name withheld said the incident was based on a cultural interpretation.
“Perhaps the body refused to be returned home because the person responsible for his death was in that area, or that some of his wishes had not been fulfilled, perhaps the deceased did not want to be carried in an expensive car or did not want to arrive home early,” said the old man
