Heavy rain has cost the lives of three people including a couple in Homa Bay county where lightning also killed a bull during the heavy rain on Sunday.
Josephat Otieno, 34, and his wife Jael Anyango, 28, were killed by lightning in Aluor village, Suba North constituency, their two daughters escaped unharmed.
The couple was found dead on the floor on Monday when some family members went to check on them in their home.
They were hit and died on the spot while watching TV.
The lightning also broke the electrical cables that are used to transmit electricity inside the house from the solar panel.
“We were surprised when we woke up and found the couple dead. We think they were killed by lightning that occurred during the heavy rain on Sunday night,” a family member said.
The chief of Lambwe East region Bernard Ouma reported the couple’s two daughters, aged six and four, escaped the tragedy.
The incident seems to have happened when the children were already asleep.
The girls discovered the tragedy on Monday morning after family members opened the door.
“The family member who opened the door found the two children sleeping on the chairs. The children did not know the incident had happened,” Ouma said.
The killed bull had its tongue removed, the bodies were transferred to Kirindo MED 25 mortuary.
