Kisii County Female Member of Parliament Dorice Donya, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, has caused laughter in parliament when she claimed that she was married as a virgin.
Miss Donya was mourning the death of Agnes Moraa, the mother of Nyamira County Female Member of Parliament Jerusha Momanyi, when she made the allegations at the afternoon session.
Her disclosure raised laughter among the parliamentarians of all parties in the parliament.
Ms. Donya noted she met Moraa’s mother several times when she was working as a presenter for Egesa FM which broadcasts in the Ekegusii language.
“Mama Moraa always guided the little girls properly. She encouraged marriage and encouraged girls should be married at a good age and be virgins,” Mrs. Donya said.
“Donya who stands before you here obeyed the principle of being a virgin. I got married while I was still a virgin,” the Member of Parliament added.
She added that Mama Agnes was at the forefront of fighting the problem of girls being conceived at a young age in her community.
The Kisii MP announced she is a mother of two girls, who will also be married as virgins.
“Know that my girls will be virgins when they get married, in honor of Mama Agnes,” Mrs. Donya explained.
Momanyi said her mother was a good example for women in the Ekegusii community, especially for encouraging them to join business.
The Member of Parliament representing Nyamira County said the memory of his mother will continue to give the future generations.
