President Ruto fires health PS Josephine, Kemsa board.

President William Ruto has fired Health Minister Josephine Mburu and the entire board of KEMSA.

Ruto had on Sunday promised to take strict action following allegations of scandal regarding the distribution of anti-mosquito nets.

At the same time the president appointed Irungu Nyakera as the chairman of the Kemsa board.

Health Minister Susan Nakhumicha on her part has reconstituted the Kemsa board and appointed new members.

The new members include Hezborn Oyieko Omollo, Bernard Kipkirui Better, Jane Masiga and Jane Nyagaturi Mbatia.

Nakhumicha also appointed KEMSA chief executive officer Terry Ramadhani and appointed Andrew Mutava Mulwa as acting director.

Speaking during a press conference at State House on Sunday, Ruto without revealing more details said he has started looking into Kemsa’s problems.

“I am doing something about it. You will see the results. I want to give you my promise, I will clean up KEMSA, whatever it takes, whatever it costs,” he said.

Kemsa has continue to make headlines for corruption and mismanagement.

The first saga was about Sh7 billion intended to buy personal protective equipment (PPE) and essential health equipment at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic and ended up in the pockets of a few well-connected government officials.
