Citizen TV reporter, Purity Mwambia, on Tuesday, May 30, revealed her plight in the United States after fleeing the country.
Speaking during a conference organized by the United States Department of State, Mwambia, who exposed police officers of hiring weapons in her expose dubbed “Guns Galore” claimed that she was transported to the United States by an organization two years ago after receiving death threats.
However, the agency sent her to the United States, where she was deported. The situation hurts her as she struggles to find another job abroad.
According to her, the situation worsened, pushing her to the brink of homelessness.
“I have been here for the last two years, and it is only one story that I have been able to share with one company. which arrived here, some say it’s like you’re getting the American dream, but it’s been hard.
With it’s own challenges. You find yourself in a position where there is no one you can talk to and run to.
Personally, I was brought here by an organization, that left me!” Mwambia claims.
” Believe me, I’m on the verge of being homeless because I don’t know what to do.
Every day when I pass metro and see homeless people, it’s one of the stories that as a journalist, they have wanted to tell but now I walk in their shoes, not knowing what will happen around me,” she added.
Apart from facing financial problems, Purity tol panelists that she felt left out as her experience and achievements were almost irrelevant in a foreign country.
She complained that her 20 years of experience is almost wasted.
“But I still hold on because this is one of the stories that you would like to tell after going through difficult process, and you have been working with all these big media stations, but when you get here you are treated like not the same as them.”
“You feel 20 years of experience as a journalist is wasted,” she said emotionally.
