National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi has criticized President William Ruto’s Madaraka Day speech.
In a tweet, Wandayi said he looked at the President with alot of sadness.
“I have watched President William Ruto’s #MadarakaDay2023 speech with a mixture of despair and sadness.
His hour-long speech did not explain why he is using the #FinanceBill2023 to milk starving Kenyans to death.”
Wandayi accused Ruto of remaining deaf to the plight of the people in the country on issues of high cost of living.
“He remains deaf to the plight of Wanjiku, preferring to live in an echo chamber where he listens to his voice. Mene, mene, tekel, parsin,” Wandayi tweeted.
Ruto, however, said that the high cost of living in the country makes all leaders wary, including himself.
He said that he is satisfied with the discussion provided by the Finance Bill.
The president stated the bill has changed the national debate in the country from the political and moral debate that was witnessed in the country recently.
“There is a heated debate about the Finance Bill taking place everywhere in this country, churches, social spaces in formal and informal workplaces, all media platforms and busy as well as in urban and rural gatherings,” Ruto said.
“For several weeks now, the discussion has remained about the issues and there is no hint of tribal remarks at all.”
