Deputy governor of Siaya William Oduol impeached By MCAs.

Siaya County Deputy Governor William Oduol has been impeached from office by the county’s ward representatives.

Mr. oduol has been acquitted after 42 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) unanimously approved the report of a special committee designed to investigate the reasons that presented the impeachment motion against him on June 29, 2023.

The impeachment motion was made by Asembo East Ward MCA Gordon Onguru who accused Deputy Governor of gross violation of the Constitution, misuse of office and misuse of public resources among other allegations.

The special committee, in a report presented at the Parliament hall by it’s Chairman and East Yimbo Ward MCA Francis Otiato, said it found the allegations had been confirmed and recommended the impeachment of DG.

During the consultation on the report, Siaya MCAs – one after the other – supported the removal of Oduol accusing him of being a dishonest leader who was aiming to further his selfish interests.

They explained differences between Oduol and his boss Governor James Orengo have not been resolved to the extend they cannot continue working together, hence the need for him to be sent back home to give county chief room to deliver appropriate services to the people.

Some of them also accused Deputy Governor of character assassination, adding that he had not only destroyed the image of Governor Orengo, but also those of the MCAs he accused of being sabotaged.

MCAs from Alego/Usonga Constituency said that Oduol and his boss were a thorn in their flesh, all the war had put them in a very bad situation.

The case was questioned by Speaker of Siaya County Assembly, George Okode, before the members unanimously passed the report by way of mention, thereby removing the Deputy Governor from office.

After the removal of Oduol, Siaya County Assembly will write to the Senate to give an explanation about the reasons why they took the action.
