Former Nyeri Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has said Kenyans should not complain about paying taxes because taxes are what make us civilized.
Ngunjiri also made it clear that if it was him, Kenyans would not have paid any taxes.
“My thoughts on the Finance Bill.
For those who keep asking my opinion on the Finance Bill – let me start by quoting Winston Churchill who said there is no such thing as a good tax.
If it were up to me/we wouldn’t pay taxes.”
He continued;
“But I’ll also quote Albert Bushnell who explained why we have that pain – because taxes are the price that civilized nations pay, to stay civilized.”
The former Member of Parliament said that Kenyans must pay taxes if they want a prosperous country.
“So, let’s start with the fact – that we have to pay taxes as long as we want to remain a viable nation (or pay extortionate fees to criminal gangs if the nation collapses; either way we’ll pay taxes). let’s agree on that issue. What else do you agree with in the Finance Bill, and why? He asked.
The finance bill has been a
topic of discussion for Kenyans and leaders, while Azimio wing strongly opposes the bill.
On Thursday Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua assured President William Ruto Mt Kenya MPs and everyone are behind 2023 finance bill.
“All members in Kenya Kwanza are behind the president regarding 2023 finance bill All our MPs are the same here in Mt [Kenya] it is 100%, only one is against and it is right because we are people of democracy,” Gachagua said.
The former MP for Mathira said that the opposition wing is strongly opposing the bill led by their leader Raila Odinga.
According to Gachagua, anything that Odinga opposes should be considered correct.
“Mtu anapinga ni huyu mzee wa kitendawili. Ambaye anavaa sufuria kwa kichwa anapinga kila kitu. Ukiona Raila anapinga, unajua hio ni kitu mzuri. ” Gachagua said.
