Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, June 7, revealed he dropped his Christian name, Geoffrey, when he joined the administration of former Head of State Daniel Arap Moi.
Addressing delegates during National Prayer Conference Gachagua noted he adopted the name Rigathi to connect better with his voters.
“I was baptized and given the name Geoffrey but because I was going to rule my people, I needed to change my identity.
That’s when I took the name Rigathi which helped me to identify myself with the people I was given the responsibility to rule,” DP said.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua confirmed to those who have been doubting his faith that he is a Christian.
Speaking during the National Service at Safari Park, Deputy President said there is already clear evidence since he married Pastor Dorcas Gachagua.
“To know that I am a Christian, you have evidence because I am married to pastor Dorcas,” Gachagua said on Wednesday.
He claimed many have also been doubting his faith.
At that time, DP served as a district officer and quickly realized he needed to govern in a way that would make him relevant to the residents within his jurisdiction.
“I was responsible for managing the district administration, which was a local government unit in the previous administrations.
Fortunately, my wife is a Pastor and so I don’t go through many problems, she is the one who guides me in prayer even at home,” he added.
Gachagua considers himself a man of faith and in March 2023, he visited Mount Kenya praying and thanking God for rain.
