The leader of opposition Azimio La Umoja Raila Odinga has asked Kenyans to be ready for nationwide protests if the government does not heed the call to reduce the cost of living.
Speaking at Chungwa House on Wednesday when he met members of Gusii Community living in Nairobi.
Raila Odinga said the administration led by President William Ruto was turning a deaf ear to Kenyans, including those who supported them in the last election.
He says Kenya Kwanza administration has turned a deaf ear to millions of Kenyans on several issues they raise about the high cost of living and instead was inclined to impose an intolerable tax system on them.
“The leadership of Kenya Kwanza has refused to listen to the cries of bodaboda, mama mboga and other Kenyans who cannot afford two meals a day and insist on imposing more taxes on people who are already suffering,” said Odinga.
The opposition leader said he will address the nation on the controversial Finance Bill 2023, together with his colleagues in Azimio and will “blow the trumpet” to give Kenyans a way forward.
“They want to present a complex bill in parliament tomorrow for a second reading and the Minister of Finance will present the budget statement on Thursday next week. They are determined to pass it, but Kenyans will oppose it,” he said.
“Kenyans are hurting. They are suffering. they came to power through the back door when they were not ready to rule and now they want to dump their negligence on poor Kenyans”, he added.
