Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has retained her position as deputy leader of the minority.
Speaking during Parliament proceedings on Thursday, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said a court order has been issued to prevent her removal.
“Honorable members, due to the foregoing, my hands are tied in relation to the court order that has been brought to me,” he said.
“Until and unless further information is provided, that this order has been changed or set aside, the court order fully suspends the decision of the minority party to replace Sabina Chege as deputy minority club.”
The speaker, however, admitted Azimio coalition had met all the requirements of the leadership change process.
He urged Azimio and Jubilee parties to find a suitable solution, warning that the confrontation in court may end and destroy the long-term political relationship.
“I am confident that amicable solutions to these issues will contribute positively to the continuation of Parliament’s activities and its vitality,” Wetang’ula said.
On May 30, Azimio sacked Chege and was replaced by Embakasi West Member of Parliament Mark Mwenje.
Following his appointment, Azimio wrote to Wetang’ula wanting to take Chege’s place before the sessions are referred to in June.
Sabina chege was fired following her move to join President William Ruto’s ruling party.
