Popular comedian Eric Omondi recently visited Fidelis Castro, a young resident of Kisumu who became a victim of a police shooting incident during the county’s demonstrations.
The tragic event occurred on July 21 while Fidelis was playing cards with friends. Allegedly, the police started firing at him, hitting his right hand initially.
As he tried to flee, he was shot seven more times in the back. Fidelis, a son of a widowed mother, is currently recovering in the hospital, and his medical bills have been a financial burden on the family.Eric Omondi was deeply moved by the situation and decided to organize a fundraiser to support Fidelis and his struggling mother.
Upon meeting the young man’s mother, who is petite in stature, she broke down in tears, mourning the severity of her son’s injuries. The incident has also added to their financial woes, making it difficult for them to make ends meet.The hospital where Fidelis is being treated is also attending to several other young men who sustained injuries during the recent skirmishes in the area.
One young man, in particular, is suffering from four gunshot wounds to his legs and is in considerable pain.Eric Omondi expressed his determination to make history by rallying Kenyans to contribute to Fidelis’ medical expenses, build a house for him and his mother, and even help start businesses for others in similar situations.
The comedian is leveraging his social media platforms to conduct a live fundraising event, starting from 8.30 pm to 6.00 am, in an effort to raise the necessary funds.The incident has sparked concern, with 18 victims of gunshot wounds currently being treated at the Jaramogi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.
