Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, has been sentenced to a decade in jail after being found guilty of shooting and causing injury to the renowned hip-hop artist Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, famously known as Megan Thee Stallion.

Lanez faced a 10-year prison term following his conviction for the shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion, a prominent figure in the hip-hop scene.

Megan testified that Tory Lanez fired a gunshot towards her feet and demanded that she dance while she was walking away from a car in July 2020.

The incident took place as they were departing from a pool party hosted at the Hollywood Hills residence of reality TV personality and businesswoman Kylie Jenner.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Megan underwent surgery to remove fragments of the bullet.A jury rendered Lanez, 31 years old, guilty of three felony charges in December, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, possessing a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and recklessly discharging a firearm.

During the court proceedings prior to his sentencing, Lanez expressed remorse for his actions, fully accepting responsibility for the shooting that occurred in 2020. He articulated his desire to transform into a better person. In a statement issued to the court, Megan, a triple Grammy winner, conveyed the profound impact of the attack on her, stating that she would forever be altered by the incident.

Prosecutors, advocating for a 13-year prison term, contended that Lanez deserved a lengthy sentence for causing harm to a “vulnerable victim” in a tranquil residential neighborhood and for subjecting her to humiliation and trauma following the attack.

Matthew Barhoma, a member of Lanez’s legal defense team, confirmed plans for appealing both the sentence and the conviction, including a request for bail during the appeal process.
