President William Ruto has confirmed his intention to strengthen executive management through the creation of the office of the leader of the Opposition.
The President said the powerful office will enable the opposition to carry out its oversight duties in accordance with the law and the Constitution.
“I have no problem with our brothers in the opposition but they should work according to the constitution,” Ruto said.
Speaking during a church service in Bungoma on sunday, 27th, Ruto said he is committed to ensuring that the leader of the Opposition has a fully functioning office.
“If they want the office of the leader of the Opposition, I am ready for the Kenyan government to fund it so that they can give information from morning to evening criticizing the government,” he said.
”When they criticize me and find that I have made some mistakes, I will correct that.”
The establishment of the office is part of the issues that the Kenya Kwanza camp has submitted to be discussed by the National Negotiations Committee.
The committee is expected to sign its negotiating framework this week in a bid to officially start talks between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio.
”We have absolutely no problem with our brothers in the opposition, they have a constitutional duty to perfom,” Ruto said.
The President, however, said that his administration will not accept chaos, and destruction of property under the pretext of oversight.
”I will not accept the destruction of public and private property through riots and demonstrations and economic sabotage, I will not accept that
It is against the constitution, against democracy and against the law, so we must all agree to live within the law”.
