
A man in Kirinyaga county found himself in trouble after his hand was amputated for allegedly stealing miraa.
According to news sources, the 26-year-old is now fighting for his life in a hospital in the county, this is after he was attacked by the public who found him stealing Miraa which is an economic investment for many residents of the neighboring county of Meru.
Mwea-mashariki sub-county police commander James Mutua identified the suspect as Stanley Maina from Ngucui village in Murinduko, media reported.
According to the police chief, the mob stormed Maina’s rented house last night – and dragged him out on suspicion that he had stolen miraa in Mugumo-ini village.
The residents also accused the suspect of being a petty thief in the village – stealing chicken and everything he came across, the report said.
Residents later flocked to Kimbimbi sub-county hospital where the suspect was rushed for treatment.
Police Commander James Mutua said his officers have launched an investigation into the incident.
