Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has dismissed the importance of the African Climate Conference organized by President William Ruto, maintaining that the organizers of the event should have held it in the desert to harmonize the theme.
Describing the meeting as nothing, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker in a subtle dig at the administration of President William Ruto, which has organized the important meeting, said the government should have imitated the Burning Man Project, an American company known for organizing events in the desert from time to time .
“A real climate change conference should be held in a DESERT like burning man then this conversation can stop being a conversation about anything!”
The meeting started on Monday, on date 4th and is scheduled to continue until Wednesday, september 6th.
While defending his views on the conference, Olekina claimed that he was the first person to plant more than twenty million trees in the Mau forest through aerial seeding.
”Exactly 5 years ago, I became the first ever leader to plant more than 20 million trees in the Mau Forest through aerial seeds in Kenya. This is what action on climate change is all about!” said the MP.
The first climate conference in Africa, organized by the African Union Commission in collaboration with Kenya, which is the host of the event, is committed to addressing the challenges posed by climate change in the continent.
Olekina said that the conference is highly hypocritical.
“High hypocrisy! Here we are talking about climate change and on top of the main hall there is a Helicopter, which is responsible for a large part of the world’s carbon footprint floating above. @UNFCCC@Mazingira_Ke.”
The conference also aims to promote international cooperation to develop sustainable solutions to climate change.
