Anti-corruption authorities in Kenya have announced the return of three islands in the Indian Ocean that were illegally occupied by three people.
The Authority’s spokesperson Eric Ngumbi also made it clear that they are in the process of recovering the fourth island, which the accused has refused to surrender.
According to the authority, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the four islands are worth 291 million Kenyan shillings equivalent to $2m dollars
The islands were designated as a conservation area under the Kisite Mpunguni Marine Reserve in 1978. Since then, they have been legally under the Wildlife Service Agency (KWS), the body that manages and preserves wildlife resources in the country.
Ngumbi told the media that private ownership of the islands, which are two hours away from the mainland by water, is dangerous as people can use the islands for criminal activities.
