Kenyans and the world at large have continued to mourn Capital FM’s best and veteran sports anchor Sean Cardovillis.
According to authorities and witnesses, his body was discovered under his stairs on the fourth floor of the apartment by a worker who had gone to clean the area leading to his home.
Many are unaware Sean before his death was fighting Pneumonia.
In a detailed story, he disclosed how his health condition turned out especially after contracting Covid-19.
According to Mayo, Clinical Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs.
The air sacs can fill with fluid or pus (purulent material), causing cough and sputum or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.
In a post titled: My battle with Pneumonia and lessons for everyone by Sean Cardovillis:
Sean went on to detail that after taking the Covid-19 supplement, a series of problems arose
”This was actually the beginning of a series of medical issues that led to a second round of pneumonia that many doctors call ‘Long Covid’.
There are thousands of cases of Long Covid – with the most famous ‘patient’ being Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton.
For the past few weeks, I was suffering from shortness of breath, which made it difficult for me to walk and sleep. This led me to rush to Nairobi Hospital last Friday night. Believe it or not, Nairobi Hospital just did a blood test – nothing wrong, and the doctor told me it was a concern and he was NOT laughing at my chest. I got worse over the weekend and had to call my dad who ran from Nanyuki on Sunday morning. “
He and his family decided to seek a second alternative.
The late veteran journalist wrote
“In September and October last year, I thought I had a fever and I was taking medicine to deal with it, then I started to suffer from back and rib pain and that’s when I took the symptoms seriously for a week before winning the KCB Nanyuki Autocross Championship and the Kenya National Rally Championship at the beginning in October. The doctor diagnosed it as pneumonia and prescribed antibiotics for three days.
Although I felt better afterwards, my father still noticed that I had some pain in my ribs, but the doctor said that the antibiotics were if they worked and the pain would go away.”
Sean said not long after that he was tested
“Anyway the symptoms disappeared, although I still had a constant cough to this day, which I never took seriously.
In the second week of December, I tested positive for COVID-19, and I self-isolated for five days until I tested negative when I went to Nanyuki for three weeks during Christmas and New Year. The mistake I made, which I later realized, was taking a jab of Pfizer booster before New Years which left me in bed with a fever for 2 days from the side effects. I found out later that you have to wait at least 28 days between testing positive for Covid AND taking the booster.”
”I went to Mediheal and had a chest x-ray and an ECG. It turned out that I had severe pneumonia!
So they gave me antibiotics to treat pneumonia. However, the pills seemed too strong for me and I was also suffering from diarrhea and anxiety attacks which meant I couldn’t sleep at night. Finally, I called my best friend whose husband is a doctor at the Village Market yesterday (a BIG thank you to Sue Nkirote Omanga – God bless you) and she knew exactly what was wrong. He changed my medication regimen and I am also on a course of multivitamin pills to regain my strength. This morning I am happy to tell you that my anxiety attacks are gone and so is the diarrhea. I have been advised to stay away from crowds for the next few weeks as my immunity is still very low.”
Due to bad health, Sean said at the time he had to cancel several concerts.
“One thing realized was that I had to cancel or postpone several of my media consulting contracts because of pneumonia. If you’re an accountant or a CEO for example, you can get away with a bad or unusual voice. A sick day. Even So, for the first time in my career, I have realized that I am nothing without a healthy voice!
As my family said, let me focus on getting my health back and the rest will fall into place.
Please, if you feel you have flu and flu-like symptoms, do not take them lightly and get checked out properly.” The post read.
