”The IEBC Server Issue Should Not Reach the Negotiation Table”. Gachagua Warns Azimio.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now seems to be changing his stance against the reconciliation talks between the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio factions, but he is making suggestions about the agenda to be discussed.

Speaking in Laare area, Meru county during the Sunday service, Gachagua said the agenda for the evaluation of the results of the 2022 presidential election should not be discussed.

According to the Deputy President, the results were not nullified by the Supreme Court but found that President William Ruto won the presidential election in a legal manner.

“The National Dialogue Committee sitting in Bomas should remove this issue from the agenda it will address. The reason is that the issue was legally decided by the Supreme Court and should not be discussed again,” Gachagua said.

The issue of the results of the presidential election is among the agendas presented by the Azimio wing and was agreed to be among the issues to be addressed by the Committee.

The committee is led by the Leader of the Majority of the Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah together with the leader of Wiper Kalonzo Musyoka representing Azimio.

“Stop discussing the results of the 2022 presidential election. Continue discussing other agendas. Talk to them about the appointment of new IEBC commissioners, the inclusion in the constitution of the Office of the Prime Minister and other agendas,” Mr Gachagua insisted, adding that there is no provision of the Constitution that allows the results of the presidential election to be re-reviewed after the winner has been confirmed.

“On September 13, 2022, President William Ruto was sworn in as President. Why do you want us to talk about the election again?” he asked.

Initially, Gachagua, strongly opposed the talks being held at the Bomas of Kenya, saying they are pointless and will not bear any fruit.

“I am speaking as the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya emphasizing that the Bomas talks have no meaning and nothing will happen here. Raila will met the President and sought his own benefits and not those of his colleagues including Kalonzo,” Gachagua said on August 23, 2023, while in Mwala, Machakos county during the funeral of the mother of the local Member of Parliament Vincent Musyoka.

The National Dialogue Committee is expected to recommend legal and policy reforms on issues affecting Kenyans. It will do so by respecting the Constitution and the roles and status of national institutions.

Among the agendas presented by Kenya Kwanza are; the re-appointment of commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the success of the gender equality law in parliaments and other government institutions, the inclusion in the Constitution of the Office of the Prime Minister and the Parliamentary Constituencies Welfare Fund Act (CDF) ) and the creation of the Office of the Official Leader of the Opposition.

And the agenda of the Azimio includes; The cost of living, the review of the results of the 2022 presidential election, consideration of equality in the selection of public officials, the government to stop interfering with the leadership of opposition parties and the selection of new IEBC commissioners.
