Residents of Nairobi county will have to prepare for a difficult time as the government of governor Johnson Sakaja plans to increase various fees including car parking.
Nairobians will be expected to dig deeper into their pockets to pay taxes to the county government if the proposed revenue bill is passed.
Enshrined in the Nairobi City County Finance Bill 2023, the county government aims to increase fees, charges and penalties on the city’s transport system including parking areas, bus stops.
The county also aims to increase rental fees for market stalls, restaurants and shops and public spaces.
The parking areas are divided into two, the first area includes the city center (CBD), Kijabe Street, Westlands, Upperhill, Community, Ngara, Highridge, Industrial area, Gigiri, Kilimani, Yaya Centre, Milimani, Hurligham, Lavington, Karen, Eastleigh , Muthaiga, Gikomba and Nairobi West. Part II areas include on-street parking at commercial centers, and any county market parking not included in part I.
In areas the daily parking fee for small cars will increase from Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 300, cargo vehicles the fee will increase from Ksh. 200 to Ksh. 500, lorry/minibus weighing up to 5 tons rise from Ksh.1,000 to Ksh. Ksh.2,000, and for trucks over 5 tons to rise from Ksh.1,000 to Ksh.3,000.
