A two-year-old baby has reportedly died after being attacked by a swarm of bees while playing outside their compound in the Chepkosa area of Bomet county.
According to reports, five other family members were left suffering from serious injuries following the attack.
Bomet county disaster management officer Stanley Mutai confirmed the incident.
“The child was playing outside their house when the bees suddenly started swarming around the compound – and started stinging everyone who was outside,” said Mutai.
The child was rushed to Sigor sub-county hospital in an attempt to save his life – but unfortunately he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Other family members were treated and discharged.
According to Mutai, the bees surrounded the compound for hours – forcing neighbors to lock themselves inside their homes for fear of being attacked.
The body was taken to the mortuary of the Longisa Appeal Hospital.
