Tough times ahead for Kenyans as the price of petrol increases.

Kenyans will suffer even more due to the high cost of living after the energy price rating agency, EPRA, announced new prices for petrol products – prices that have been implemented from the midnight of September 15, across the country.

EPRA, in a statement to the newsrooms on Thursday night, revealed that the price of Super Petrol has now increased by Ksh.16.96, Diesel is up by Ksh.21.32, while Kerosene has gone up by Ksh.33.13 per litre.

The Authority’s Director General Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria noted that the increased price was due to the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products.

“The prices are inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT) of 16% in accordance with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Taxes (Amendment) Act 2020 and revised rates of Excise Duty adjusted for inflation in accordance with Legal Notice no. 194 of 2020,” he said.

Following the announcement, Petrol has now started selling at 211.64 shillings in Nairobi from the previous price of 194.68 shillings, and Diesel will be sold at 200.99 shillings from last month’s price of 179.67 shillings while kerosene has increased to 202.61 shillings from the price of August of 169.48 shillings in Nairobi.

The rates per liter in Mombasa will be, Super Petrol (Ksh.208.58), Diesel (Ksh.197.93) and Kerosene (Ksh.199.54) while in Kisumu; Super Petrol (Ksh.211.40), Diesel (Ksh.201.16) and Kerosene (Ksh.202.77).
