The body of a 40-year-old fisherman from the beach of Remba island, Homa Bay county, who drowned while fishing in Lake Victoria 10 days ago, has been recovered.
Daniel Otieno’s body was found near Migingo Island in Migori County on Sunday evening by a group of fishermen.
Otieno drowned along with another fisherman who is yet to be found. They drowned a week ago while fishing near Migingo Island.
According to the chairman of the Coastal Management Unit Zemekiah Okoth Mamra, Otieno and Ochieng met their death following an accident involving a ship and a boat in Lake Victoria.
The boat broke in two, making one part where the two fishermen were sitting drown.
Mamra said that the two were among the fishermen who were going to catch omena fish.
Meanwhile, the search for Ochieng’s body continues. According to tradition, they will make every effort in cooperation with experts with swimming skills to search for the body until it is found.
Fishermen have been asked to be careful when they carry out their activities in the lake and even other areas with a lot of water.
Most of the fishermen in Lake Victoria say that they experience many challenges in their line of duty.
These fishermen have asked the government to enable them get equipment that they can use and that will help them incase of an accident.
