The Makadara Court has been requested by lawyers of the former leader of Mungiki Maina Njenga, to instruct the police to give him protection against police officers due to the abuse of his freedom.
The lawyers representing Njenga told the chief judge of Makadara, Tito Gesora, on Monday that on Saturday evening around 10 pm, Njenga was kidnapped by masked policemen.
lawyer Ndegwa Njiru told the court that the former leader of Mungiki Maina Njenga has been accused of possessing swords and other weapons.
However, he has been released on Sh100,000 cash bail. The former leader claims that he knows the police are the ones who kidnapped him.
The court further heard that Njenga was dumped in Limuru Banana Estate after the people who kidnapped him released him.
Lawyer Evans Ondieki asked the court why a government official should cover his head when arresting someone.
“He should pay respect to the office, only criminals hide their faces.” Ondieki added that the kidnapping might interfere and affect the outcome of the trial if Njenga was not released.
Njenga was in court for the hearing of his case where he was accused of possessing a sword and mace among other dangerous weapons.
The lawyers also requested that the items taken by the police, including mobile phones, be returned to the defendants.
The prosecution, however, said they needed more information from the investigating officer to clarify the evidence.
