EX-Journalist Janet Mbugua recently shared her journey almost two years since quitting alcohol.
Janet shared on her YouTube channel that quitting alcohol was a decision she made herself and was not forced to do so by anyone or anything. However, She did not set an end date for her sincerity.
“It’s something that I felt was the right decision for me don’t drink, and December will mark two years since I made that choice. It’s a decision I believed was right for me. It’s something I may choose to return to in a year, a decade, or perhaps never. However, I am not imposing any unrealistic expectations on myself. Making a decision like this can be difficult, but in life, everything can be challenging. It’s about choosing your battles” Janet shared.
Janet didn’t set herself a deadline because she didn’t want to put the weight of unreasonable expectations on her shoulders and fall if she didn’t live up to them.
“But what is interesting is that even when you make such a decision, it can be difficult so choose your difficult one. The life I have lived until now, I feel I have made decisions where I can compare the life that was without that decision and with it,” she said.
According to Janet, discipline does not come easily or naturally and that is why she chooses not to set any unrealistic expectations for herself.
“Saying that I don’t drink is not a change, it’s a fact that I had to choose myself. It’s difficult and my commitment towards a certain goal and towards a certain type of person that you want to be,” she said.
She noted that achieving sobriety is not a one-time process as it takes a lot of mind, soul and spirit every day.
“Sometimes we crave things that come to us without difficulty. For those who have chosen to stop drinking, please refrain from pressuring them to drink. You never know what they had to overcome to make that choice,” Janet added.
