Anti-LGBTQ Demonstration took place outside the Supreme Court in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.
Several civil society organizations and religious groups are expressing outrage at the recent decision that allows LGBTQ organizations to register in the country.
Some protesters carried placards calling for the resignation of Supreme Court judges.
Ten years ago, a government-sponsored organization refused to register an LGBTQ rights organization, saying it was promoting homophobia in a country where homosexuality is illegal.
However, the judges this year overturned that decision.
Kenyan President William Ruto has asked religious leaders to promote what he describes as cultural values.
On September 13, 2023, the Supreme Court allowed homosexual groups not to be registered through their commission.
Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu and judges Smokin Wanjala and Njoki Ndung’u said that it was unconstitutional and denied the rights of those groups if they were not registered.
And judges William Ouko and Mohamed Ibrahim protested saying they cannot tolerate or fight for the rights of people who engage in immoral behavior.
Friday’s protest started at the Jamia mosque to outside the Supreme Court and also the Parliament where they presented their grievances.
Saying “La ilaha illAllah Muhammadur Rasulullah” and “Takbir Allah Akbar”, the believers said they do not want homosexuality in the country.
