President William Ruto’s Economic Adviser, David Ndii, on Saturday, said he did not need permission from anyone to criticize Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the government for mistakes.
In his statement on his social media account, the economic advisor claimed that DP is his age and classmate and he would call him by mistake without fear of being threatened.
He also explained that DP often calls him when he is lost.
Ndii added that one of the biggest obstacles in correcting the economic mistakes in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration is the lack of accountability and constructive criticism. He warned that the same mistakes cannot be repeated in Ruto’s administration.
“Rigathi is my age(partner). We were classmates, actually. I don’t need authority to warn him. He does the same thing from time to time.
“The ministers of Uhuru I met whispered that they agreed with me but they were afraid of Uhuru’s anger. So we are paying the price of good men and women who do not have the courage to do the right thing,” he said.
On the other hand, he warned those in government against creating fear for him by speaking his truth, insisting that he will not turn into a hypocrite.
He maintained that Ruto’s administration was elected on the principle of allowing Kenyans to be free to criticize the government.
“We were elected on the platform of political issues, economic issues especially against the politics of ethnicity and personality. I owe it to myself to hold the line, regardless of the size of the fingers that need to be stepped on, or the consequences,” he said.
Gachagua has previously called Ndii about his views on the high cost of living.
