While the Nobel Prize winners announced this week, the actual Nobel award ceremony won’t take place until December 10 in Stockholm.
But one country that will not attend the ceremony is Iran, which has been heavily criticized by the winner of this year’s peace prize.
The Nobel Foundation caused controversy when it announced earlier this year that Iran, along with Russia and Belarus, would be invited to the awards ceremony after being excluded last year.
Russia and Belarus were singled out for their involvement in Ukraine conflict, while Iran was ignored due to its human rights record.
However, it reversed the criticized decision last month.
It admitted that the response “overshadowed the message”.
“Therefore, we choose to repeat last year’s message, not to invite the ambassadors of Russia, Belarus and Iran to the Nobel prize ceremony in Stockholm,” the foundation said.
However, the Norwegian Nobel Institute said it will still invite the ambassadors of those countries to its peace prize ceremony in the Norwegian capital Oslo, also on December 10.
