Miss Annie Lumbasi’s house has been trending on social media for the past week or so due to its unique style.
The decision of the Kenyan entrepreneur and nurse who lives in the United States to build her mansion on rented houses has surprised many because it’s not a very common thing.
Speaking in an interview with Paxson TV, the mother of three noted that building her own home on top of rental houses was her idea and was supported by her builder.
“I brought the idea from my contractor, He told me it was possible, it could be done. He told me about the price, how long it would take and the equipment needed. We worked together, hand in hand. He was asking me, ‘what do you want us to do here or there?’ I was emailing him, calling him if I tell him to do this or that,” Ms. Lumbasi said.
The house which is located in Zimmerman Street, Kasarani was built while she was still in the United States and most of the communication with the contractor was through phone call.
Lumbasi said she has known the contractor who built her house for many years because he used to build a house for her father in the past.
“The house took four years to build. It’s a lot of work. People only see the house but it’s very hard work. You have to work hard but above all you have to have faith and trust God,” she said.
She also noted that it cost her millions of dollars to build.
The entrepreneur said that the idea of building rental houses and a residential house was inspired by her desire to make full use of her piece of land.
She said that she decided to buy land and build in Zimmerman Street because she grew up in the area and wanted to revive her childhood.
Despite many praising the creativity of the owner of the house building rental houses under her residence, there was no shortage of critics who pointed out some loopholes in the building.
Ms. Lumbasi has however pointed out that the house is very safe as a lot of research and advice was done before construction.
