The trial of Jeff Mwathi’s death has been postponed until March next year.

The mother of Jeff Mwathi has complained about the delay in the trial of her son’s death after the court adjourned the case.

Anne Mwathi, who was ready to continue her testimony on Wednesday, expressed her disappointment saying that she has now experienced double pain after traveling from Qatar and not being able to testify.

However, her testimony could not be received as her lawyer Danstan Omari was not present, something the chief judge of Milimani Zainab Abdul, reminded her.

When the case was initially heard, the court said it would ensure the case would be heard on November 1, 2023 at half past 9 in the morning.

Other lawyers, including DJ Fatxo’s lawyer, Duncan Okatch, received a call from Omari in the morning asking them to apologize because he was still in Mombasa and would arrive at 11.30 in the morning.

The court adjourned the case until March 25, 2024.

Jeff died on February 23, 2023 in the Redwood apartment, rumors claimed he jumped from the 10th floor of DJ Fatxo’s house.

In August, the court was told that Jeff had attempted suicide twice before his death on February 23.

Taking a firm stand, Jeff’s uncle, Muchoki Mwathi dismissed claims that their son committed suicide.

Muchoki was led in his testimony by lawyer Omari.

He said the Jeff he knows cannot kill himself because apart from being his uncle, they were very close friends who cooperated a lot.

“From the video, I saw Jeff’s body being discovered after Fatxo left an hour later. As a family we have lost a son who had a bright future ahead of him,” Muchoki testified before Milimani chief judge Zainab Abdul.

Lawyer Okatch representing Fatxo tried to prove to the court Jeff committed suicide because of the bad relationship between his parents but Muchoki said he did not believe that family issues contributed to Jeff’s death.

The lawyer added that there are witnesses who will testify that Jeff wanted to kill himself because of the relationship between him and his parents.

However, Muchoki said he does not know Jeff’s relationship with DJ Fatxo but at one point he told Fatxo that he had given him a design shop and they were supposed to do it together.

The prosecution will call 34 witnesses to testify.
