DCI investigators have launched a massive manhunt to track down two Wells Fargo employees who are alleged to have escaped with Ksh 94 million from the famous Quickmart supermarket.
Daniel Mungai Mugetha who is the squad commander and Anthony Nduiki Waigumu, the driver, are reported to have disappeared with the large amount of money after leaving the company car that was carrying the money in the Dafarm area of South C, Nairobi.
DCI officials have reported the suspects drove the truck secretly from the security company’s office in Nairobi shortly after the money was loaded inside. It is said they left a police escort car that was waiting to be allowed to leave.
“Without knowing that truck no. The KBA 517T they were escorting had left minutes before, the armed escort team went to inquire from the management why the loading was taking so long. Till then, neither the truck nor the crew could be found,” read the DCI report.
DCI added, “The report of the investigation manager of the company showed that the Isuzu Canter car was transporting money to a bank located in Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi, and it was carrying Sh94 million for a famous supermarket in the country.”
Police officers from Lang’ata who were motivated to look for the suspects later found an empty truck that contained the money abandoned in South C area.
Detectives from the special branch have since launched a manhunt to find the suspects and recover the stolen money.
The DCI has also released photos of the two suspects and asked the public to share information that will help in their arrest.
