Former actress of Papa Shirandula Jacky Vike, popularly known as Awinja, has opened up and said she has more than 30 commissions which she said are acting roles.
Apart from her famous acting, Awinja is a multi-talented content creator who is widely recognized in the art industry.
Awinja first rose to fame by acting as a househelp in the popular show Papa Shirandula, a role that catapulted her to fame.
However, her witty talent goes beyond the limits of television and acting, she has also proven herself in major film roles, including appearances in popular Kenyan films such as “Nairobi Half-Life” and “Click Click Bang.”
Her comedic performances continue to shine especially in Kenya’s most successful comedies and dramas.
Speaking about her unique Kamisis collection, Awinja revealed the inspiration she has for these clothes which people of the current generation consider rustic.
“I started to include Kamisi because I wanted to imitate the old girl in the village. Kamisi was the vibe in those days and I got used to that behavior now I own about 30 kamis.” she said.
When asked how she chooses what to wear, Awinja said:
“What matters is the colour, if I’m wearing a green dress, the undercoat must be a different colour.”
Despite her on-screen transformation, Awinja’s real personality really impresses her biggest fan who is her son.
She said her son really likes the way she acts and he is always a fan of her videos on social media.
“My son exclaims, oh my God, Mom? But sometimes he calls me Awinja, and sometimes I find him watching my videos on YouTube.”
During the interview, Awinja also took the time to reflect on the tragedy that befell their acting father in the entertainment industry, Charles Bukeko popularly known as Papa Shirandula.
She described the difficulty of accepting his death and how it brought the family closer.
“It was very difficult to lose our father. He had brought us together, and we were spending a lot of time together. We felt like we didn’t mourn enough since he died during the Covid-19 pandemic. Everything happened so fast, and we didn’t accept that.”
