4 arrested in connection with Sh94.9m Quickmart heist, Sh9.1m recovered by DCI.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Offenses (DCI) who are working on the case of Ksh 94,918,750 allegedly stolen by employees of the financial protection company Wells Fargo a few days ago have succeeded in arresting four suspects.

The four were arrested in different places after being linked to the theft that shocked the entire nation last Monday. Ksh 9,101,300 was obtained from the operation.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the first suspect, Ismael Patrick Gitonga was arrested in Rongai, Kajiado County after it was discovered that his Toyota Fielder car was used to carry the stolen money from the escort vehicle that was carrying it.

Gitonga is also reported to be the one who drove the car after taking the money.

Two other suspects, Michael Matolo Njeru and Samwel Onyango were arrested in Njiru area, Nairobi while they were in the process of repairing the car that is reported to be carrying the money, in order to hide his identity.

Police have reported that the fourth suspect, Martin Nderi Nganga was arrested in Kasarani Street, Nairobi and Ksh9,101,300 was found in his rented house.

“Also found was a cash box in the forest near Gataka Market, in Karen Street,” the NPS said in a statement on Sunday morning.

Detectives working on the case are still searching for the rest of the stolen money and arresting more suspects.

On Monday evening, DCI released a statement about the incident where they said they have launched a manhunt for two Wells Fargo employees who allegedly absconded with 94 million in QuicKMart cash.

Daniel Mungai Mugetha who is the squad commander and Anthony Nduiki Waigumu, the driver, were reported missing with the large amount of money after leaving the company car that was carrying the money in the Dafarm area of ​​South C, Nairobi.

DCI reported that the suspects drove the truck secretly from the security company’s office in Nairobi shortly after the money was loaded inside. It is said they left a police escort car that was waiting to be allowed to leave.

“Without knowing that truck no. The KBA 517T they were escorting had left minutes before, the armed escort team went to inquire from the management why the loading was taking so long. Till then, neither the truck nor the crew could be found,” read the DCI report.

DCI added, “The report of the investigation manager of the company showed that the Isuzu Canter car was transporting money to a bank located in Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi, and it was carrying Sh94 million for a famous supermarket in the country.”

Police officers from Lang’ata who were motivated to look for the suspects later found an empty truck containing the money abandoned in the South C area.

Detectives from the special branch have since launched a manhunt to find the suspects and recover the stolen money.

The DCI also released photos of the two suspects and asked the public to share important information that will help in their arrest.
