Rapper A$AP Rocky will appear in court on charges of firing a pistol in an altercation with his former childhood friend, a Los Angeles judge has ruled.
The decision was made Monday during the second day of a preliminary hearing, which was attended by A$AP Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers.
Prosecutors say Mr Mayers, 35, pointed and fired a gun at Terell Ephron two years ago, causing minor injuries.
Rocky who has two children with singer Rihanna, has pleaded not guilty.
Grammy-nominated Rocky, who has had two top US albums, faces two counts of assault with a firearm.
He could receive up to nine years in prison if convicted.
Mr Ephron, who was part of the hip-hop group A$AP Mob and has known him since they were in high school in New York, claims that apart from the lawsuit, he is a victim of assault and battery and emotional distress.
Mr Ephron, known as A$AP Relli, says Mr Mayers “convinced” him to meet at an undisclosed location outside the W Hotel in Hollywood, Los Angeles, on November 6, 2021 to discuss the disagreement.
CCTV footage of the alleged assault played in court shows Mr Mayers shooting and firing a gun, an LA detective testified earlier this month.
However, Mr Mayers’ lawyers deny that it is their client who appears in the video.
