Operatives of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Saturday arrested two land officials in Kajiado for alleged corruption.
The EACC said it arrested the two at the Kisamis Land Office in Kajiado West sub-county.
They arrested a boss at the center along with another officer working under the main suspect for demanding a bribe of Sh148,000 from the complainant.
The two, EACC said, wanted the money to release 74 title deeds held in their office without any legal validity.
“They were processed at the Integrity Center Police Station on Thursday and later kept at the Kilimani Police Station pending further action,” the EACC report said.
EACC claimed that the Kajiado Land Office is among those with the most complaints of corruption in land transactions.
”In the instant case, the Land Registrar is accused directly and indirectly through the said officer, he has been extorting money from the people in order to facilitate land transactions,” said the report.
The arrest of the two land officials is part of the commission’s ongoing operations across the country to control and disrupt corruption in service delivery centres, the report further said.
“Citizens who seek services at the Kajiado land offices are regularly victimized by corrupt public officials,” the report said.
It said corruption in service delivery centers hurts ordinary citizens every day and causes denial or delay of services.
