In the past two days, there has been a flood of the biggest disaster ever to happen in the neighboring country of Tanzania in Hanang mountain.
According to information of rescue agencies and government, the landslides started in the mountain following heavy El Nino rains and swept away almost all the houses along with property and people.
Speaking at the farewell ceremony for 52 of the 63 bodies recovered from the flood, the prime minister Kassim Majaliwa surprised people by claiming that he went around the scene and found all the houses were swept away but only the church building remained intact.
“Nyumba zote zimeondoka, limebaki kanisa tu, hali sio nzuri,” Majaliwa finished adding that the government will pay for funeral services for those affected.
Apart from that, the national government will also manage the treatment of all the injured until recovery.
This is happening at a time when the situation in Kenya is volatile, especially in the coastal counties.
On Monday, houses and people were swept away by floods after Voi river in Taita Taveta county broke its banks.
However, the Red Cross organization arrived and started rescue operations where the residents are now asking the central government in collaboration with those of the county to provide the funds allocated to deal with and face the disasters of El Nino in helping the victims.
