The music group Spider Clan, famous for their song Rieng Genje aka Kaveve Kazoze, have come forward to open up about their plight despite the great popularity they got.
In an interview with Jalang’o TV, the band of four artists consisting of brothers and neighbors from Nyandarua county complained they did not reap anything from the hit song which trended for a long period earlier this year.
They claimed this was mainly due to the fact that most of the money generated by the song on YouTube went to the account of the producer of the song.
According to the group, they never earned a dime from the song’s digital earnings.
”Kwa ngoma ya Kaveve Kazoze hatukukulia kitu. Ilisimamiwa na mwenye nyimbo. Mwenye beat ndiye alikuwa anachukua hiyo pesa.” they said
However, the group has since learned the hard way and rectified the mistakes with the money set to be channeled to their accounts.
They added, “Mwenye beat ndio alikuwa anachukuwa hizo doo sasa wakati imefika 4 million views sasa apo ndio tumechanuka tukajua venye inaweza toka kwa monetization yake ikuje kwa yetu sasa”
They claimed that apart from the great popularity, the song ‘Kaveve Kazoze’ which hit the country for a long time was not of great financial benefit to them.
Further added club owners normally pay peanuts with complains of a bad economy.
“Kwa umaarufu, jina ni kubwa lakini pesa hakuna. Hadi ikifika ni kwenda shoo watu wanalia shida, eti uchumi ni ngumu.” they said.
While talking about how life is after their song went viral, Ngesh wa Vasha who sang the famous verse of ‘Kaveve Kazoze’ said she feels bad to portraying a rich person status with the song which is not true.
”Mtu huskia ako down, unajua pale online watu walichachisha. Wakachachisha tuko na doh, tuko na doh lakini hatuna,” Ngesh said.
She added ‘Mtu huskia tu ako down kwa sababu tukipatana na watu huku nje wanasema tuko na doh na huwezi mwambia huna doh”
FAKE PROMISES
The group’s only female star, Ngesh also disclosed that some of the prominent leaders didn’t fulfil their pledges.
These include Nominated Senator and legal mind Karen Nyamu who promised to buy Ngesh a digital camera.
EX-Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko also came into the picture for not honoring his promises to the group.
Although, they shared their gratitude for Sonko’s gesture that saw them take their maiden flights to Mombasa and back, stage a performance and receive outfits.
However, they’re still hopeful that they’ll eventually get what they rightfully deserve.
