Two people tragically lose their lives in a mid-air collision between two planes over Nairobi. The incident involved a Cessna aircraft belonging to the Ninety-Nines Flying School, which crashed into the Nairobi National Park, resulting in the deaths of a trainee pilot and instructor who were on board at the time.
The second aircraft involved in the collision was a Dash 8 belonging to Safarilink Aviation Limited. Fortunately, this aircraft was on a flight to Diani with 39 passengers and 5 crew members when it experienced a sudden impact shortly after take-off. The crew made the swift decision to return to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for assessment, and all passengers and crew landed safely with no reported injuries.
Safarilink Aviation released a statement confirming the incident and reassuring the public that all individuals on board their aircraft were unharmed. They emphasized their commitment to safety and stated that the necessary inspections and investigations would be conducted to determine the cause of the mid-air collision.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has launched an investigation into the tragic event, enlisting the Air Accident Investigation Department (MID) and the National Police Service to uncover the circumstances that led to the collision. As the aviation community mourns the loss of lives and works to prevent such accidents in the future, efforts are being made to ensure the safety and security of air travel for all passengers and crew.
